The Parenteau family has been serving First Nations people in the Georgian Bay Area since 2011. They are the founders of Rugged Tree and also serve as team leaders for the First Nations ministry team of Multiply. Derek is a credentialed pastor with the Mennonite Brethren.
Derek and Tiffani discerned their call to serve First Nations during a significant season of urban ministry in Toronto working with gang members and human trafficking victims. It was during that time in the midst of all that they witnessed that Jesus put a burden on their hearts to move north and share the Good News among the Anishnabe people. They have been blessed to witness Jesus at work in powerful ways on a variety of reserves as He has saved, healed and freed many people. More recently, Derek has also been given the opportunity to train and equip others to share the Good News to indigenous people across Canada and beyond.
God has been teaching them to live out the Great Commandment and the Great Commission at every possible opportunity. They employ the Disciple Making Movements strategy which is based on Luke 10:1-24 and seeks to find indigenous people of peace through bold gospel proclamation and then mentoring them as evangelists and house church planters in such a way that a movement can begin. God has also been showing them the incredible importance of reconciliation and they are passionate about seeing The Prince of Peace bring healing to First Nations people, churches and the land we all share together.
As a family, Derek and Tiffani currently call Sudbury home. They have 3 amazing kids; Nathan (14), Kenzie (13) and Liberty (8). They are a homeschooling family and really enjoy gardening, camping and eating really spicy food!
